Correction and Retraction Policy

Jurnal Media Hukum Universitas Tompotika Luwuk is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes the importance of correcting errors and retracting publications when necessary to ensure that published research remains trustworthy and consistent with established publication ethics standards.

1. Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error or omission is identified in a published article and the error affects the accuracy, clarity, or completeness of the publication but does not invalidate the main findings or conclusions of the research.

Corrections may include, but are not limited to, errors in author names, affiliations, references, typographical details, factual information, or other content that requires clarification or amendment.

Requests for corrections may be submitted by authors, readers, editors, or other relevant parties. All requests will be assessed by the editorial team. If a correction is considered necessary, the journal will publish a correction notice that clearly identifies the affected article, describes the error, and specifies the amendments made. The original article will remain accessible, with an appropriate link to the correction notice, where technically feasible.

2. Retractions

A retraction may be considered when serious concerns arise regarding the validity, reliability, or ethical integrity of a published article. Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to:

  • Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of another person's work.

  • Fabrication or falsification of research data, evidence, or findings.

  • Serious methodological errors that invalidate the principal findings or conclusions.

  • Duplicate publication or substantial overlap with previously published work without appropriate disclosure.

  • Unethical research practices or other serious violations of publication ethics.

  • Fraudulent authorship or other forms of research misconduct that materially affect the integrity of the publication.

A retraction will not be issued solely because an author disagrees with the interpretation of the results or because subsequent research reaches different conclusions. The decision must be based on an objective assessment of the evidence and the seriousness of the identified concerns.

3. Investigation and Decision-Making

When a potential error or reason for retraction is identified, the editorial team will conduct an initial assessment and may request explanations or supporting evidence from the authors and other relevant parties. Where appropriate, the journal may consult independent experts or notify the authors' affiliated institutions.

All parties concerned will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond. The editor-in-chief or an authorized editorial representative will make the final editorial decision based on the available evidence, the journal's policies, and recognized publication ethics standards. The journal will handle all cases fairly, impartially, and confidentially to the extent appropriate.

If an investigation cannot be completed promptly but serious concerns remain, the journal may publish an expression of concern while further assessment is undertaken.

4. Retraction Notice and Article Status

When a retraction is approved, the journal will publish a clearly identified retraction notice explaining the reason for the retraction to the extent supported by the evidence and permitted by applicable confidentiality requirements. The notice will be linked to the original article, and the original article will be marked as retracted. Where technically feasible, the article will remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record, with a clear indication of its retracted status.

The journal will ensure that correction and retraction notices are transparent, appropriately linked to the affected publications, and publicly accessible.

5. Responsibilities and Commitment

Authors are responsible for promptly notifying the journal of significant errors discovered in their published work and cooperating with editorial investigations. Editors are responsible for assessing concerns objectively and taking appropriate action to protect the integrity of the scholarly record. Readers and other members of the academic community are encouraged to report credible concerns supported by relevant evidence.

Jurnal Media Hukum Universitas Tompotika Luwuk reserves the right to issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when justified by the evidence. All decisions will be made in accordance with the principles of transparency, fairness, accountability, and academic integrity, taking into account recognized publication ethics guidance, including the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
