PUBLICATION ETHIC

CELEBES Agricultural, a biannual online peer-reviewed journal, upholds ethical standards for all stakeholders engaged in the publication process. These parties encompass the author, chief editor, editorial board, peer-reviewers, and the publisher (Faculty of Agriculture, Tompotika Luwuk University). The underlying principles of this statement adhere to COPE's Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors

DUTIES OF EDITORS

Ethical Guideline for Journal Publication

The inclusion of an article in a peer-reviewed CELEBES Agricultural journal plays a crucial role in establishing a unified and esteemed knowledge network. It serves as a direct representation of the authors' work quality and the supporting institutions. Peer-reviewed articles uphold and exemplify the scientific method. Hence, it is imperative to establish a consensus on ethical standards for all parties involved in the publication process, including the authors, journal editors, peer reviewers, publishers, and societies.

Publication Decisions

The editorial board of CELEBES Agricultural holds the responsibility of determining the publication of submitted articles, with a focus on validating the work's significance to the research community and readership. They follow the policies set by the journal's editorial board and comply with legal obligations regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Collaboration with other editors or reviewers is also a possibility in the decision-making process.

Plagiarism Screening

Authors have a fundamental responsibility to ensure that their manuscript is devoid of plagiarism and academic misconduct. In addition, the editor takes on the task of thoroughly examining each article prior to publication. This includes conducting plagiarism checks using Turnitin software, which compares the content against an online database.

Fair Play

At all times, an editor assesses manuscripts based solely on their intellectual merit, irrespective of the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.

Confidentiality

The editors and editorial staff are obligated to maintain strict confidentiality regarding any information pertaining to a submitted manuscript. Such information should only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as deemed necessary.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors are prohibited from utilizing unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research unless they obtain explicit written consent from the author.

DUTIES OF REVIEWERS

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review aids editors in making informed editorial decisions, and the subsequent communication with authors can additionally assist in improving the quality of the paper.

Promptness

If a selected referee feels inadequately qualified to evaluate the research presented in a manuscript or anticipates an inability to promptly conduct the review, it is expected that they inform the editors and withdraw from the review process.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts received for review must be handled as confidential materials and should not be shared or discussed with anyone unless explicitly authorized by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted in an objective manner, refraining from personal criticism towards the author. Referees should express their perspectives clearly, accompanied by supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers are expected to identify pertinent published works that have not been referenced by the authors. Any indication that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously documented should be accompanied by an appropriate citation. Additionally, reviewers should bring to the attention of the editors any significant resemblance or overlap between the manuscript being reviewed and any other published paper that they are personally aware of.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Confidential privileged information or ideas obtained during the peer review process must be treated with utmost confidentiality and not exploited for personal gain. Reviewers are obligated to abstain from evaluating manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other associations with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the papers.

Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to CELEBES Agricultural undergo an impartial evaluation process known as "double-blind review" by a minimum of two reviewers. The final decision regarding publication, revision, or rejection is determined based on their assessments and recommendations. In specific instances, the editor may seek the input of an additional third reviewer before reaching a decision, if deemed necessary.

DUTIES OF AUTHORS

Reporting Standards

Authors who report original research are expected to provide a precise description of the conducted work and impartially discuss its significance. The data should be accurately and faithfully represented in the paper. Sufficient details and references must be included to enable others to replicate the study. Engaging in fraudulent or knowingly erroneous statements is considered unethical behavior and is not tolerated.

Originality and Plagiarism

The authors bear the responsibility of ensuring that their work is entirely original, and in cases where they have utilized the work or words of others, proper citation or quotation must be employed.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

As a general practice, authors should refrain from publishing manuscripts that essentially describe the same research in multiple journals or primary publications. Simultaneously submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals is considered unethical publishing conduct and is not permissible.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors are encouraged to include references to publications that have significantly influenced the direction and essence of the reported work.

Authorship of the Paper

In accordance with scholarly norms, authorship should be reserved for individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research being reported. Those who have made significant contributions should be acknowledged as co-authors. In cases where others have participated in specific substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author carries the responsibility of ensuring the inclusion of appropriate co-authors and the exclusion of inappropriate ones. Moreover, the corresponding author must confirm that all co-authors have reviewed and granted approval for the final version of the paper, as well as consented to its submission for publication.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

In keeping with academic standards, authors are obliged to transparently disclose any financial or significant conflict of interest in their manuscript that could potentially impact the findings or interpretation. Additionally, all sources of financial support for the project must be revealed.

Fundamental errors in Published Works

In the event that an author identifies a substantial error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is their responsibility to promptly inform the journal editor or publisher and collaborate with the editor to retract or rectify the paper.

Animal Ethics

Research involving experimental animals should adhere to ethical guidelines and prioritize animal welfare. Animals used in experiments should be treated properly and efforts should be made to minimize any potential pain or discomfort. The use of experimental animals should comply with relevant local, national, and international regulations. Authors should provide a statement indicating the name of the ethical authority and the consent number, affirming that the trial was conducted in accordance with animal ethics and welfare.

Experiments should be conducted in line with the guidelines set forth by the International Animal Ethics Committee or the Institutional Ethics Committee, as well as in compliance with local laws and regulations. In the Materials and Methods section, all studies involving animal subjects should explicitly state the approval obtained from the review and ethics committee for each study, along with the corresponding ethical approval numbers, if applicable. The editors retain the right to reject papers if there are concerns regarding the adherence to appropriate procedures.
